Kite Reflections: 9-D: 02/23/12
1. The good or strong parts of my kite are the cuteness that comes with the smallness of them because small kites are so CUTE.
2. Something I could have done better on for this project would have been time management because I am still not done and that is BAD!!
3. One of the attributes of the them for some of my kites was tiger. I love tigers. The design has stripes and a background color that was blended with the colors on the other side because one color would not have made it realistic looking.
4. The balance my kites have are bilateral and asymmetrical. I chose these by random because I don't really plan ahead when it comes to artwork.
5. The colors I used overall would be a randbow of colors. I used half cool colors and half warm colors, I believe. I did these colors because nature comes in all shades and most of my designs were based off of nature.
6. Something I learned from this project was how to blend with tyvec and sharpies. I can apply this to life if I ever want to make another kite out of typec because this is a skill necessary if you would like to make a double sided kite!! :)
7. After evaluating the design on my kites, I have come to find that if there was any planning, it was spur of the moment and action was followed as soon as thought was made. It was mostly by chance. I didn't really have any idea of what I wanted mine to look like.
8. Although this project was enlightening, I most likely will never use that information for my life. I think it was interesting, but if I ever did art, it would be drawing, painting, clay work, or textiles. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would, but I'm probably never gonna make a kite out of this class.

Clay Creature Reflection (11-D): March 26, 2012
1. I think the good/strong part of my sculpture is the two heads coming out of the neck because I think it looks very realistic... ;)
2. I think I could have done better at putting expressions on the faces because they all look kinda friendly.
3. My creature is a hydra. I chose to make this creature because my original plan to make a zebra wasn't working out and while I was playing around with the clay, thinking about what to make, I thought the piece I'd formed looked like the body of a hydra.
4. I would describe my 3-D shape as a round looking dragon with four heads. The movement frozen in time is that the hydra is growing two heads and sort of crouching because it is in the middle of a fight.
5. The surface qualities of my creature is fairly smooth, I think. I selected that texture because although my hydra is supposed to have scales, I couldn't find a way to protray that. So, I think I will just paint it so it looks like it has scales.
6. I learned that air bubbles are bad. I can apply this to the future by taking my time at the beginning. Some lessons that could be applied to life in general are that I like clay because it is very fun.
7. I did this project the way I did because I like to do something a piece at a time, all at once. The pieces that were by chance were the body because I was just playing around when I made it.
8. I, personally, think this is a very worthwhile project. Although it is very messy, I found it very enjoyable. Something Mr. Purdy should do to this project in the future is give us a little more time at the beginning to play around with the clay because then we can get a better feel of how to work the clay.

Thematic Painting Reflection (12-D): April 19, 2012
1. In my painting, some good parts are the blending of the sky and the waves because they seem very real and natural to me.
2. Some things I think I could have done better on was the girl standing on the stone because she was slightly odd-shaped and you couldn't really see her face or features.
3. The theme of my painting is Ingo, a book series. I chose to make this theme because I saw a drawing that I really liked that was based off of the books.
4. Some intricate parts of my painting are the sky and the shaping of the sea because they have pretty good detail.
5. The thing that stands out the most in my painting would be the girl because she is big and in the bold color of black.
6. Something that I learned from this project that I can apply to future projects is that it does help to do the background first, when painting because then the front has more detail and you aren't covering it up.
7. I did my painting the way I did because it seemed like the right route. Most of it was planned.
8. I personally believe that this project is mostly worthwhile. Although the tempera paint isn't the best stuff and comes off when in contact with water, it helps a lot with the basic painting tecniques.

Painting Class Reflections:
Watercolor Painting (1-D) January 24, 2013
1. The good or strong parts of my project coloring because I think it looks the way I imagined it.
2. Something I think I could have done better on with my paintings would be taken better care of them outside of class because they got smears and splatters on them from being placed the wrong way.
3. The theme of my past painting is kind of dark because I went through a very dark time. The theme for my present painting is the sun rising because I think my life is rising. The theme for my future painting is this bright sun hanging in the sky, highlighting everything because I'm hoping for a very bright future.
4. One thing that repeats in all my paintings is the scene because the only thing changing in the scenery is the placing of the sun and the color.
5. Something I've concluded about watercolor painting is that while its very beautiful if you use it right, I prefer not having to plan it down to the very last detail before I even start a painting.
6. I ask for paints alot and usually its just acrylic, but this makes me want to do a few watercolor paintings sometimes. So should I ever follow through on that, I will know what I'm doing, therefore applying it to life. :)
7. For my meets paintings, I had a general idea of the layout I wanted to use, but the colors were picked on the fly. For my exceedings, I had no forethought of what I was going to do. I just started painting one flower and then the next and the next!
8. I think this is a very good project. The paintings aren't too big so it's not difficult to fill the page. Also, doing this first might teach us to always have a plan about what to do because if you don't, you will probably have to start over.

Acrylic Painting 2-D March 4, 2013
1. I think that I did well on the fading for the sky because it is gradually yet very prominent.
2. I think I could have done better in planning my theme because it is mostly unclear what my painting is supposed to represent becaue it is last minute stuff.
3. The unity of my painting is life/day compared to death/night. I chose this because I had the sky planned that way and ended up theming the whole painting that way.
4. In my painting I have mostly cool colors and then I have a pinkish-red and lots of black. I selected these colors at random and they help show my theme through representation on the black and literal meaning with the cool colors.
5. The values in my painting aren't exactly put in a specific place. The light areas are mostly on the left side, but there are also some on the right as well.
6. A lesson I learned from this project is that I need to think out the entire design before I start painting because my painting would have most likely turned out better.
7. The way I did my painting was mostly by chance. I planned the sky, but the rest was just put on as we went. I mostly just threw paint on there when I couldn't think of what to do.
8. I think that while it was a good experience... I never want to stretch canvas again. In the future, Mr. Purdy should only make people stretch canvas if they want to!

Monochromatic Nonbrush Acrylic Painting 3-D April 16, 2013
1. The good parts on my blue painting of the emotion peace were the blending because it looked very nice and was gradual.
2. The things I could have done better on would be making it a little less sloppy because some colors are very random.
3. The emotion represented in my painting is peaceful or the state of being at peace. It's represented by the ripple in the water. I decided on the emotion after looking at it and thinking it looked like rippling water because I wasn't sure where I was going when I painted it.
4. The monochromatic color is blue and I picked that because I like painting with blue and it helps to show the emotion because blue is a peaceful color.
5. My surface type was canvas because Alyssa had an extra one and I couln't pick a surface. I started off using a knife but switched to fingers because it was difficult to get paint on the knife. The benefits were I had more control over the texture, but the challenges were I really wanted to use a brush for details.
6. I learned how to use leftover paint to create another painting completely different from the one before. I can apply this to life by not wasting things but by improvising.
7. First I put on Gesso, then I threw on paint. It was with the purpose of making the background, but then I couldn't decide what to put in front of it, so it just ended up being my painting. My intention had been to use the palate knife, but it wasn't working very well, so I switched to my fingers.
8. I think this project is partially worthwhile because while the idea of monochromatic is good and painting without brushes causes more creativity, I don't think they should be put together as one project.

3-D Surface Painting Reflection May 15, 2013
1. I feel like there were no good or strong parts to my painting. Except possibly the background because my painting just kind of sucked overall.
2. I think the foreground could have bee done waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better because there is essentially no detail to it. It also would have been better with the glass, but the glass broke somehow. I originally was going to use a different surface, but they kept breaking on the way to school. So I should have tried less breakable objects/3-D surfaces.
3. The surface I painted on was a picture frame which I received from Alyssa Mundt. The texture was cardboardy/woodish which I chose because I didn't figure it could break. I was wrong.
4. The theme or unity of my design would be nature and I chose that because I just love nature and it's soothing to paint the backgrounds for.
5. My major colors are green and lilac and I selected those colors because I like them and they were kind of laid back...
6. I don't think there was much for rhythm. Excect possibly the flowers and they were there because I painted them there.
7. I learned that you shouldn't rely on breakable things for your main focus because, guess what! They break and you have nothing to work with.
8. Most of what happened was by chance, as usual. I originally had a dark, stormy background with a cliff over large waves, but at the end of the project, that was replaced with smooth grass strokes and random flowers.
9. I don't know that it is a worthwhile project. It relies too much on planning ahead. Not all of us are good at planning ahead. I like the idea, but it isn't something I had ideas for.

Free Choice Painting Reflection May 30, 2013
1. My final project was a painting of a landscape on a cardboard piece. It is hard to say how long it took me to make it because I worked on each one randomly.
2. The good or strong parts of my project would be the blending because there are varying shades of light and dark.
3. Something I could have done a better job with would be planning, yet again, because my painting doesn't really have a focal point or a very interesting theme.
4. I painted a landscape and I used the different shades of brown to convey the warmth of the scene it is from.
5. Two elements of design that stand out in my project would probably be value and texture. I beilieve these are important because they are kind of the only elements in my painting. The value is the only reason you can sort of tell what my painting is. The texture just comes from the strokes of the paintbrush.
6. Two important principles in my design would be contrast and unity. I believe this because the contrasting colors are important to the painting and the unity, which is nature, is important because you have to have a meaning in art. Even if you don't know the meaning.
7. Something I learned from this painting that I could apply to life would be to make or find a focal point. The painting without a focal point is pretty boring. So, life is possibly pretty boring without a focal point as well. See? Lots of meaning. In art.
8. First I found what I was going to paint on. Then I picked colors for my painting. After that I added white and black so as to put in varying shades, also had gold to add into it. Finally, I put paint on the cardboard and it looked like a landscape.
9. My project was almost completely by chance. The cardboard was by chance because I happened to find it when I was looking for something to paint on. The end result was by chance because it happened to look like whatever it looks like.
10. This is a good project for the next years painting classes, in my opinion, because it lets them take what they've learned or found or wanted to do and finally do it.
